How ImTT came to life to better your life
I’m Robert Miller, PhD.
Psychologist and advocate for helping to make processing traumatic memories and negative behaviors easy on both therapists and patients.
For more than 16 years, I’ve been treating people suffering with traumatic memories.
I began my career in psychology working in foster care. I witnessed firsthand the damage that psychological trauma and emotional neglect can do to children. In order to help these children, I learned a psychological approach called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
EMDR was extremely useful in working through traumatic memories in children as well as adults. Years later, I began working at Camp Pendleton Marine Base with active-duty marines who were suffering from PTSD from combat.
While the EMDR I had learned was useful and worked with the traumatic memories of combat, the feelings were often too intense for the person to process.
I needed to find a better way.
Working with a suicidal Marine, I had an idea that, if the pain the Marine was feeling could be released, the suicidal thoughts would go away. Using a simple breathing-visualization technique, the pain was released and the suicidal thoughts were eliminated without reliving the experience that got the Marine feeling this way.
From that point on, I realized that pain, terror, and other feelings could be released without the person having to intensely experience them.
I have seen firsthand how wonderful people's lives have been blocked and destroyed by the impact of events that they had no control over.
Successful psychotherapy isn't about managing behavior. For me, successful therapy releases a person from the straightjacket of the past so that they can live the life they want to live.
Today, I continue to develop ImTT to work on many other issues including traumatic memories, depression and anxiety, OCD, behavioral and substance addictions, codependence, and many other issues.
I invite you to learn more about ImTT and how it can benefit your practice and the work you do.
